Dr. Jose F. Ruiz-Munoz of @Gator_Sense Lab will start a new position as an Assistant Professor at the National University of Colombia. He will join the computer programming and data analysis faculty team of the statistics program at La Paz campus. Congratulations, Jose!
He is broadly interested in data analysis, signal processing, and machine learning applications. His current research focuses on plant root phenotyping through x-ray sensors, time series analysis, and weakly and semi-supervised machine learning.
Jose has been developing data cleaning and machine learning algorithms for the ARPAE-funded Rays for Roots project since 2017. He also collaborates with Dr. Ricardo Chebel in a UF Research Seed Fund awarded research for incorporating artificial intelligence in dairy cattle health monitoring.
Dr. Ruiz-Munoz completed his Ph.D. in the Signal Processing and Recognition Group at the National University of Colombia at Manizales under the supervision of Dr. Mauricio Orozco-Alzate.
“The new campus of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia at La Paz is an exciting project, and I am thrilled to become part of it. There is a lot of potential for developing projects in biology, ecology, energy, and agriculture. I look forward to helping with the incorporation of machine learning technologies in these areas, as well as to teach computer programming and data analysis courses.”
We know Dr. Ruiz-Munoz will be a super-star in his new position!
