Research Areas: Air pollution (characterization, chamber simulation, modeling, health, and climate)

The UF-APHOR chamber is one of three large photochemical reactors worldwide that mimics the atmospheric process of gases and aerosols under the ambient sunlight. The potential research areas include as follows, but not limited,

  • Development of a SOA model and characterization of gas and particles originating from atmospheric oxidations of various hydrocarbons.
  • Chamber simulations: the quantification of atmospheric processes of gas and SOA with various analytical instruments under the ambient sunlight in UF-APHOR facility.
  • Study of sea spray aerosol during red tide events and lake spray aerosol during cyanobacterial algae blooms: field studies, chamber simulation of the atmospheric processes of algal aerosol and its toxins, and exposure study via collaboration with toxicologists.
  • Atmospheric processes of wildfire smoke gases
  • Emerging environmental chemicals: modeling of atmospheric processes of PFAS, microplastics, and volatile chemical products.

The ideal candidate needs to demonstrate a strong background in sciences and engineering related to environmental areas, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or computations.  It is expected that the candidate is able to conduct projects and produce multiple publications. Please provide a cover letter, CV,  publication list and the contact information of 3 references to Dr. Myoseon Jang at mjang@ufl.edu.
