Du team received a grant to work with the Nvidia AI Technology Center (NVAITC) to develop a foundation model dedicated to enhancing robotic perception, particularly focusing on tactile sensation. This collaboration aims to pioneer new frontiers in robotics by creating more intuitive and responsive robots that can perceive and interpret the physical world with unprecedented accuracy.
Our joint venture centers on harnessing tactile perception – essentially, giving robots the ability to ‘feel’. By integrating real-world physical data into this foundation model, we aim to significantly advance the tactile capabilities of robots. This will enable them to perform tasks requiring delicate touch and nuanced interactions, such as medical procedures, intricate manufacturing, and more.
The Nvidia AI Technology Center brings to the table its cutting-edge technology and expertise in AI model training, which will be crucial in processing the vast amounts of data required for this initiative. Our role will leverage our deep experience in tactile sensor technology and robotic applications to ensure the model is not only robust but also applicable in real-world settings. The potential of this technology to transform industries is immense. From enhancing automation in healthcare to improving precision in industrial applications, the implications of advanced robotic tactile perception are vast. Moreover, this project aligns with our ongoing commitment to push the boundaries of what’s possible in robotics and AI.
