He went on to publish three additional articles related to his dissertation work and 50 peer-reviewed articles total on materials science topics. He began working in engineering education in 2005, and published his first peer-reviewed engineering article in 2008. He conducted research in both materials science in engineering education until 2012. In 2012 he closed his materials science lab to focus solely on engineering education. His most highly cited article (1500 citations) is Bone structure and formation: A new perspective, published in Materials Science & Engineering R-Reports. His most highly cited engineering education article (close to 1200 citations) is Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research in engineering education, published in the Journal of Engineering Education.
