Welcome to the Dobson Lab. Our work focuses on biomedical applications of magnetic micro- and nanoparticles for applications such as Magnetic Activation of Receptor Signaling (MARS) / Magnetic Ion Channel Activation (MICA), magnetically triggered release and activation of biomacromolecules, magnetic nanoparticle-based gene transfection, and novel magnetic separation systems for in vivo recovery of osteoarthritis biomarkers and extra corporeal blood filtering.
We are very active in device design and fabrication to support this research and three companies have been founded based on this work:
MICA BioSystems (United Kingdom)
nanoTherics (United Kingdom)
42Bio (US)
In addition, we do a lot of work on magnetic micro- and nanoparticle synthesis, surface functionalization, and characterization, and have projects examining the role of brain iron in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons.
