Human-Systems Engineering Laboratory (HSEL) is located in the Reed Labs engineering building on the University of Florida (UF) main campus and is part of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE). The lab’s research areas include transportation human factors and human-autonomous vehicle interaction, applying wearable sensing technology and machine learning in occupational injury prevention and rehabilitation, and improving user interactions with new and emerging technologies in safety-critical systems.
The mission of the HSE Lab is to develop innovative engineering solutions for the design of socio-technical systems through the following objectives:
- Research: To apply and extend industrial and systems engineering methods and human factors science to the analysis, design, and evaluation of human technology systems.
- Education: To foster an appreciation for human-systems engineering and design in a future generation of industrial engineers.
- Societal Impact: To improve human health, welfare, and productivity through the design and evaluation of socio-technical systems.
- Collaborations: To build interdisciplinary research teams combining basic science, engineers, and domain experts in solving problems with societal impact.
