Flavia Gallo, D.Sc. was selected to attend the Summer 2024 program to obtain a “Certificate of Teaching Excellence” from the Teaching Academy at the Johns Hopkins University! She is constantly focused on her professional development and career advancement. JHU is one of the most prestigious universities to be. Way to go!

“The Johns Hopkins Teaching Academy is pleased to offer its Teaching Institute in a 5-day online format to graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to advance the development of university-level educators by enhancing classroom teaching skills. This Institute will be packed with information, experiences, tools, and resources. It is our hope that you will benefit from getting to know one another and working together in a learning community comprised of fellow future faculty.”
May 2024:
Dr. Gallo gave her Research Seminar as part of the Northwestern Spring 2024 Future Leaders Program. The Future Leaders Program aims to broaden the pipeline of diverse materials researchers by providing targeted information and support to senior graduate student and postdoctoral researchers pursuing academic positions.

March 2024:
Dr. Gallo participated in the 4th Women in Microscopy Conference, on the International Women’s Day, March 8th, 2024, which was promoted by the NUANCE (Northwestern University Atomic and Nanoscale Characterization Experimental Center).
The conference creates space for important conversations on career challenges, diversity, and work-life balance alongside with research presentations on materials science, biology, and environmental sciences.

March 2024:
Dr. Gallo was invited to be part of a selected and renowned cohort in the “Future Leaders in Materials Science and Engineering” program in the Northwestern University. She will participate in a virtual visit to give a short seminar to MSE students, faculty and staff, meet MSE faculty, and expand network. September 2023:
Dr. Gallo has been nominated a “Rising Star in Materials Science and Engineering” by a committee of distinguished Professors from MIT, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon Universities.

June 2023:
In the Summer of 2023, Dr. Gallo was awarded participation in the “Broadening Participation: 2023 MPS Workshop for New Investigators” for advancement in proposal preparation skills, by the National Science Foundation Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (NSF-MPS). This award encompassed monetary support to participate in an in-person workshop at the U.S. National Science Foundation headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, as part of NSF’s initiatives to build a “diverse and capable workforce, vital to maintaining the nation’s standard of excellence in STEM”.
