Applied Genomics and Evolution (AGE)
Evolutionary processes are fascinating in their own right. But they are also an amazing lens for addressing immediate challenges in conservation, ecosystem management and human health. Our lab explores what evolutionary problem solving can teach us about the origins of complex traits and systems.
We use many of the latest advances in genome science, including comparative genomics, and environmental DNA to understand how evolution addressed challenges like living in the arctic or leaning to speak.
Active Research Projects
- Vocal learning and the origins of speech disorders.
- The evolutionary basis of arctic adaptation.
- New tools for understanding inter-species hybridization.
- Environmental DNA and the impacts of agriculture on Florida lakes.

Cutting Edge Genomics Collaboration
We work with an international group of collaborators including the Vertebrate Genomes Project, an international consortium of scientists whose goal is to sequence the genome of every vertebrate species.
Come Join Us!
We are currently recruiting new lab members at the Graduate, Postdoctoral and Undergraduate levels.
Students from all backgrounds and experiences are welcome! Whether you’re a biologist, computer scientist, engineer, or none of those but just interested in the work you can fit here. The importantly thing is that you are interested, creative and willing to learn.
