Publication announcement: “Continuous Visualization of Time-Dependent Deformation of a Hydrogel Surface” in collaboration with Dr. Jiho Kim at Hongik University and Dr. Malisa Sarntinoranont here at UF. Jiho was my first PhD student, so we have been working together for 10 years now! In this paper, we show that the lateral surface displacements of particles at a hydrogel surface under direct shear match almost exactly to the force profiles measured. The mechanisms of lubrication and friction are hard to see in buried interfaces, but we’ve pulled it off! The surface experiences significant stretch!
