The interdisciplinary course covers understanding the foundational concepts of magnetism and magnetically ordered materials, spin-dependent electron transport, and their device applications. With fundamental understanding of these materials and devices, the focus throughout the course will be on applications, with examples for magnetic data storage, magnetic random access memory (MRAM), neuromorphic computing, sensors, microwave, magnonic and quantum devices. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are trained through independent and collaborative report and presentations.

Course Pre-Requisites / Co-Requisites
EEL 3008 or permission from the instructor

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Understand the transition from binary magnetic memory to quantum states
Quantify fundamental magnetic materials properties
Design basic components of magnetic devices
Investigate the latest research and development in the field through projects and presentation

EEL 3008 Physics of Electrical Engineering Course Description An introduction to the fundamental physics underlying components and devices and their application to electronics, power, and wireless.
