In some cases, leaching tests are required to comply with environmental regulations. In other cases, leaching tests are tools used as part of a decision-making process. In Florida, leaching tests have historically been a component of the beneficial use determination process (for example, when is it safe to recycle a waste through land application).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US EPA&#8217;s synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP) is commonly employed. Newer US EPA leaching protocols have the potential to provide even greater insight with regard to the release of chemicals from beneficially used wastes, and this research aims to provide guidance for incorporating these new protocols to the decision-making process in Florida.
