ENV 6932 Beneficial Use of Waste Materials
This course will introduce students to material that covers recycling waste products, in which students will conduct a class project where wastes are sampled and tested. Topics that will be discussed include:
- Solid waste generation, handling, and disposal practices
- An overview of the U.S. solid waste management regulatory framework
- How leaching tests are used to evaluate management practices for waste materials
- Civil engineering applications where waste materials can be recycled or reused
- Geotechnical engineering related to the beneficial use of waste materials
- Asphalt paving, asphalt testing, and the use of wastes in asphalt concrete
- Portland cement concrete manufacture, concrete testing, and the use of waste materials in concrete and cement
- Characterization of environmental risk
