ENV 4300 Solid Waste Containment Design
Credits: 3; Prereq: ENV 4351; Coreq: ENV 4561 or CWR 4202.
Design fundamentals of solid and hazardous waste landfills, waste piles, monofills and surface impoundments. Regulations, site requirements, sizing, liner design, leachate and gas management system design, operations and closure.

ENV 4351 Solid and Hazardous Waste Management
Credits: 4; Prereq: EES 4201.
Generation of solid and hazardous wastes. Collection, methods, equipment, costs and disposal. Rules, regulations and management systems for proper control of solid and hazardous wastes. Evaluation of engineering systems to minimize costs and regulatory problems. Serves as an EES capstone design course.

ENV 4353 Solid Waste Systems Design
Credits: 3; Prereq: ENV 4351.
A capstone design experience focusing on the design of solid waste management systems such as landfills, waste-to-energy facilities, compost operations, recycling facilities and hazardous waste treatment/storage/disposal facilities.

ENV 5305 Advanced Solid Waste Treatment Design
Credits: 3
Review of solid and hazardous waste treatment processes, including thermal, biological, chemical, and mechanical treatment. Analysis of existing operations.

ENV 5306 Municipal Refuse Disposal
Credits: 3
Quantities and characteristics of municipal refuse and hazardous materials. Collection methods, transfer stations, equipment and costs. Refuse disposal practices, regional planning and equipment.

ENV 6301 Advanced Solid Waste Containment Design
Credits: 3
Current practice in designing solid and hazardous waste landfills, waste piles, monofills, and surface impoundments. Regulations, siting, sizing, liners, leachate and gas management, operations, closure, and post-closure.

ENV 6932 Beneficial Use of Waste Materials
Credits: 3
Current practices in assessing waste materials for beneficial use. Environmental characterization. Physical, geotechnical and structural characterization.

CEG 5114 Geotechnical Aspects of Landfill Design
Credits: 3
Settlement analysis, slope stability, liner design, and LCRS design.

ENV 6932 Construction and Demolition Debris Management
Credits: 3
Fundamentals of effectively and safely managing solid waste from construction, demolition and renovation of built structures.
