Congratulations to Tiffany Conklin, who successfully defended her Master\u2019s thesis on Friday, October 7th<\/sup>, 2022! The title of her defense was \u201cParticle Delivery Systems to Mitigate Macrophage-Induced Inflammation in Osteoarthritis\u201d and reflected her work conducted as a researcher in the Sharma Lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiffany has been a member of the Sharma Lab since December 2018. As an undergraduate student, Tiffany worked on engineering PEG-based hydrogels with different biochemical and mechanical properties. During her undergraduate career, Tiffany did not let campus closure due to COVID19 slow her research progress and learned COMSOL Multiphysics Software to model the diffusion of proteins through the different hydrogels. Through her efforts, Tiffany was selected as a part of the 2020 University Scholars Program, a prestigious program awarded to only 200 undergraduate students across all disciplines at UF!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After receiving her Bachelor\u2019s of Science degree through the UF department of Biomedical Engineering, Tiffany elected to stay in the Sharma Lab and pursue her Master\u2019s degree. Her research focuses on the use of particle delivery systems for the immunomodulation of classically activated macrophages in osteoarthritis. During her time in the Sharma Lab, Tiffany has disseminated her research through posters at BMES 2021 and UF Biomaterials Day 2022 and through an oral presentation at OARSI 2022 and BMES 2022. Tiffany is the first graduate student to complete a Master\u2019s thesis in the Sharma Lab!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
