Nelms Endowed Professor in recognition of his contributions to trustworthy computing, automotive security, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Ray is globally known for his significant contributions to advancing secure and resilient computing systems. His work bridges hardware and software security, ensuring the integrity and reliability of critical systems in automotive, industrial, and IoT applications. Ray also serves as the Director of Industry Programs at the <a href=\"https:\/\/iot.institute.ufl.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Both the institute and the endowed professorship are named in honor of Warren B. Nelms (BSEE \u201959), an ECE alumnus who was a pioneer in the field of IoT long before the term was coined. Nelms was an engineer and entrepreneur whose passion for innovation led him to build his own solar-powered &#8220;smart&#8221; home and develop groundbreaking technologies, including an auto-dial system for telephones while still in high school. Later in his career, he founded Computec and invented the Bluebox, a device for monitoring home energy use and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Ray\u2019s appointment as the Warren B. Nelms Endowed Professor underscores his leadership in the field.
