Dr. SA Sherif gave a special lecture at the 2026 AIAA Aviation Forum held in San Diego June 8-12, 2026. The lecture covered on-going research on aircraft icing at the University of Florida. This included investigating the role of atmospheric turbulence on cloud droplet distribution and droplet impaction on aircraft wings, developing new models for computing the droplet collection efficiency, developing a rigorous framework for an improved Messinger/Myers model of ice accretion under conditions of variable properties and unsteady aircraft icing, and developing models that capture the transition from rime ice to glaze ice. Validated results were presented in each of the topics discussed.
