Our Human-Centered Computing PhD program is home to 11 <\/span>cutting-edge<\/span> research labs redefining how people and technology connect. Our labs pioneer breakthroughs in VR, AR, and XR experiences; design intelligent agents and dialogue-driven tutors that learn from and adapt to users; and push the boundaries of child\u2013computer interaction and K\u201312 computing education. We lead advances in immersive visualization and analytics, safeguard <\/span>privacy<\/span> and trust in digital systems, and create lifelike virtual humans, spatial audio environments, and health-focused simulations that improve lives. What sets us apart is our impact beyond the lab<\/span>. In fact, <\/span>our researchers co-d<\/span>esign and collaborate w<\/span>ith educators, clinicians, policymakers, and communities to deliver technologies that <\/span>not only <\/span>work in theory but transform the way people live, learn, and thrive.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across our Human\u2011Centered Computing division, 11 labs now span a visible <\/span><\/span>VR\/AR\/XR<\/span><\/span> thrust (virtual humans, AR task guidance, immersive analytics, spatial audio), <\/span><\/span>child\u2013computer interaction<\/span><\/span> (NUIs for children and families), <\/span><\/span>human\u2013AI\/agents<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>learning sciences and CS education<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>visualization\/visual analytics<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>privacy, security, and trust<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>accessibility and equity<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>audio\/sonification<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>health and well\u2011being<\/span><\/span>, and a cross\u2011cutting <\/span><\/span>machine learning<\/span><\/span> effort that powers modeling, perception, adaptation, and evaluation across these areas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
