Integrating Research into Education
Graduate Course Development
Fall 2021: PI Liu has opened a new graduate-level course, EIN6905 – Special Problems: Advanced Topics in Continuous Optimization. This course is focused on analytical tools to understand continuous optimization algorithms. The course contents are organized as the discussion of the variations of optimization problems that are increasingly ill-structured. For each problem variation, one or two representative algorithms are analyzed in detail. A significant component of the course is focused on new zeroth-order optimization algorithms as a result of the ongoing research project.
Undergraduate Course Development
Spring 2022: PI Liu will open a new undergraduate-level course, ESI4317 – Advanced Topics in Operations Research. This course discusses advanced operations research topics on non-linear optimization, convex optimization, dynamic programming, and stochastic optimization. Study large or complex problems from two different perspectives: Static approach and Dynamic approach. To be included in the contents are the research results in applying zeroth-order algorithms to radiotherapy optimization.
