{"id":131,"date":"2018-09-22T21:48:35","date_gmt":"2018-09-22T21:48:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bme.ufl.edu\/labs\/grip\/?page_id=131"},"modified":"2025-07-11T15:23:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T19:23:53","slug":"our-recipients","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/faculty.eng.ufl.edu\/grip\/about\/our-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><em>The Heart Of GRiP<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Here at GRiP, <strong>the recipients are at the center of what we do.<\/strong> Every year, we attend Hand Camp, a weekend-long gathering of kids and teens with upper-limb differences, and provide activities for everyone attending. <strong>We also use it as an opportunity to deliver devices to people who requested them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In addition to this, we take online orders from all over the country and send them out via USPS on a rolling basis for those who cannot attend our events. We also participate in community outreach events such as <strong>Adaptathon and the ATIA conference.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faculty.eng.ufl.edu\/grip\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/507\/2018\/11\/29186423_2036964633238534_2398566328022597632_o.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator aligncenter has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><em>Meet Our Recipients<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Our recipients live all across the world<\/strong> and have interests ranging from <strong>playing the cello<\/strong> to joining their school marching band, basketball team, <strong>video gaming,<\/strong> and everything in between. <strong>Some of our earliest work in 2015 was adapting musical instruments in the then Music Division.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We started at about a dozen members and now have hundreds of current and former GRiP members. It is our goal to help these children and teens in pursuing their goals and become more confident in their own lives.&nbsp;Even if that means they no longer need a device, we will be there to support them. <strong>Always.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faculty.eng.ufl.edu\/grip\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/507\/2019\/04\/DSC02060.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><strong><em>Devices<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Every device that we build is designed, fitted, and printed specifically for the individual recipient by a team of University of Florida students who may spend multiple semesters preparing the devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Every one of our <strong>3D-printed devices is delivered free of charge and our adaptive video game controllers are offered at retail price or lower,<\/strong> which is why <strong>donations are so important to our ongoing operations.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Heart Of GRiP Here at GRiP, the recipients are at the center of what we do.
