Dr. Yong Huang

Dr. Huang’s research interests center around the processing of biological and engineering materials for healthcare/energy applications and the understanding of process-induced damage or defect structures. His current research program covers three main topics: 1) 3D direct writing of biological and engineering materials with a goal to layer-by-layer fabricate scaffold-free human tissues/organs as well as 3D engineering structures using laser- and inkjet-based techniques; 2) precision machining and performance evaluation of machined medical implants with a goal to machine and characterize engineering materials, especially for medical implant applications; and 3) fabrication of polymeric microspheres / microcapsules / hollow fiber membranes with a goal to fabricate functional constructs/structures from polymeric materials.
